Screening Liberally Resources and Tips

Why Screening Liberally?

- Because films shouldn't end when the lights go up.

- We want to not only create a buzz about a film but about the issues.

- Bring your ideas, opinions and viewpoints. Let's talk.

- It’s all about promoting democracy one film at a time.

How To Start A Screening Liberally Chapter

"It goes on one at a time,
it starts when you care
to act, it starts when you do,
it again after they said no,
it starts when you say We
and know who you mean, and each
day you mean one more."*

There are several routes you can take.

Route One: Gather Friends, Go To A Movie
Though everyone would have to buy their own ticket, this is an easy pre-packaged option. Make a night of it and meet up before the film for dinner or drinks.

Route Two: Screen A Film Yourself
Pick a film, pick a venue, tell your friends, tell your friend’s friends. There are many producers/distributors who will send you a copy of their film. If you have to purchase the film, pass a hat around and ask for donations.

Picking a Venue
- You could screen a film at your house or you could try a community venue, such as a local coffee house or theater.
- Keep in mind, however that for gatherings over 25 copyright law must be taken into consideration.

Once known as the "California Riviera," the Salton Sea is now called one of America's worst ecological disasters. This documentary covers the historical, economic, political, and environmental issues that face the Sea, it more importantly offers up an offbeat portrait of the eccentric and individualistic people who populate its shores. Hair-raising and hilarious, part history lesson, part cautionary tale and part portrait of one of the strangest communities you've ever seen, this is the American Dream gone as stinky as a dead carp.
