Behind the Scenes

We started Screening Liberally because films shouldn't end when the lights go up. This isn't just about motion pictures—this is about the big picture. Join us as Screening Liberally brings free, advance screenings of socially conscious films and filmmakers, directors and industry insiders to lead post-screening discussions. We are not only creating a buzz about a film but about the issues. Now when the lights go up, the movie-going experience continues. Bring your ideas, opinions and viewpoints. Let's talk. Screening Liberally: promoting democracy one film at a time.

Where did Screening Liberally come from?

A movie promoter walks into a bar.......

She was searching for the perfect audience: a young, progressive, savvy viewer and stumbled into the Drinking Liberally crowd. After a few pints, the reels started turning. The scene was set but the action didn't start until a few months later, when Leigh and Wendy brainstormed over burritos in the East Village. Within days we found a great film, Time Out New York became our print sponsor, and we are waiting to see how this storyline unfolds.....

Screening Liberally is a project of Living Liberally, which builds
progressive communities through social networks and events. Living Liberally also runs Drinking Liberally, the national network of progressive social clubs; Laughing Liberally, the political comedy project; Eating Liberally, events with good gab and great grub; and Reading Liberally, book tours for progressive authors. Living Liberally is a New York-based LLC, led by a team in NYC and fueled by the energy of hundreds of volunteers and partners around the country.
